ALBERTO X VAN VOLXEM

Publication of the March 2023 press release

The Mönchengladbach-based family business ALBERTO, which has been in business for 101 years and is now in its third generation, is clearly committed to Germany as a business location with #coolgermany. Since 2011, the company’s internal commitment has also been reflected in the collection shoots, which know how to convince with changing backdrops and correspondingly completely different, each with its own unique appeal. For the 2023 summer season, the Mönchengladbach trouser label staged at Van Volxem, the top wine estate located on the Saar.

Saar wine is a bit like ALBERTO trousers. For over 100 years, both have stood for outstanding quality worldwide. The Van Volxem winery, located in the midst of the 90-hectare estate vineyards on the Wiltinger Schlossberg, has dedicated itself to nothing less than this commitment.

It is this combination of tradition and aspiration, precision and perfection, living sustainability and the absolute will to innovate and modernise that has fascinated us. Because we see our own values reflected in it.

Marco Lanowy, Managing Director of ALBERTO, explains the connecting element between the two companies.

Bowing not only to the home market Germany

But the Mönchengladbach trouser manufacturer was of course also impressed by the moderate, clever and above all long-term architecture of the winery. Particularly striking: the monolithic tower made of the natural stone travertine, which rises from a picturesque landscape on the southern edge of the Schlossberg slope and alludes to the historic Bismarck Tower on the other bank of the Altarm. But the fact that Van Volxem focuses on sustainability was certainly also decisive. For example, an existing cellar on the grounds was integrated into the new building, heat is supplied by a wood chip plant and the e-pumps for visitors are fed from the estate’s own photovoltaics.

What we at ALBERTO call #coolgermany ultimately means for us not only a bow to our home market, but above all to our environment. Sustainable materials such as Tencel, organic cotton, bamboo denim, linen or recycled spandex fibres, which we used in the 2023 summer collection, are testimony to this. Another is that we don’t fly halfway around the world for shoots, but have deliberately chosen German locations for years.

explains Marco Lanowy, Managing Director of ALBERTO

So there are many, but always the same values that go into the choice of a location and which the company tries to subtly visualise anew every season – as a decoration of an anecdote, so to speak. With the current shoot, this has once again succeeded all round. This was not least due to the hospitable welcome of winery owner Roman Niewodniczanski and his entire Van Volxem team. This is another reason why people at ALBERTO will certainly talk about it for a long time to come.

ALBERTO sees itself as a culturally influenced pants label in motion, developed for people in motion. People for whom quality, comfort and freedom play an important role, people who seek relevance and find style in the process. Founded around 100 years ago with the aim of becoming a dynamic, innovative presence in the international fashion world while constantly setting new standards, the brand has remained true to its founding ethos to this day. Contemporary craftsmanship values and design bear witness to this, as does the company’s own concept store or the use of intelligent, voice-controlled interaction systems. What began as a small trouser manufacturer has long since been incorporated into collections – for urban bikers, for example: A brand that has made it its mission to anticipate the needs of its customers and combine them into an inspiring lifestyle concept that is also justified beyond all trends.
