Nachbericht Infotag Sourcing
Under the heading “Sourcing in times of political uncertainty” the DTB invited to its 14th sourcing convention which took place in Düsseldorf.

As this is a relevant topic nowadays, the convention provided lectures about the current developments, panel discussion which gave an update from experts’ point of views as well as the presentation of promising sourcing countries.
After a short introduction given by Mr. Hilger, Hilger Consulting, about the recent trends, Bruno Mineiro,Director of Client Management of TWINTEX, started the day by giving an overview about Portugal.
Presentation 1
He explained why it´s important to keep Portugal as a potential sourcing location in mind by mentioning a few examples like the economic growth, slow inflation and political stability.
As a very promising model example, he introduced the participants to his company and presented all the efforts taken by them to be a great employer and competitive at the same time. Twintex took all necessary steps to make its employees proud working at this company / industry.
Presentation 2
Antonio Barberi Ettaro managed to give the audience a summary about the international trade policy development within only 30 minutes. In his impressive lecture he succeed in simplifying the complexity of the trend and simultaneously outlining everything of significance.
BREXIT, USA TPP, the election results of the US and upcoming major EU trade topics have only been some of the parts of his compelling and highly informative presentation.
Presentation 3
Through the presentation of Stefanie Bertram, BeKo Consulting, the participants obtained an intense impression of Mauritius and its sourcing opportunities.
Presentation 4
Sven Eriskat, infoaid, took a close look at the countries Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco. Showing a SWOT analysis of each country, the participants were given a firsthand expert evaluation. On the basis of the mean figures he compared these three countries. The audience was authentically informed about the advantages, disadvantages, export restriction, production volumes and some more, and shall thus benefit from all these kind of information in future.
Presentation 5
Mr. Thiede, ATICS GmbH, started with a brief presentation of the Matrix group, which has integrated transparency and sustainability in its corporate philosophy. In order to enable this company philosophy for the customers as well, Mr. Deniz Thiede offered a complete software solution.
During his lecture he introduced the audience to the software Quonda.
This software enables to follow any quality analysis in the production facility in real time and thus provides a comprehensive transparency in the quality assurance process.
Presentation 6
Dhyana van der Pols, Nash International, completed the day with her presentation “Africa- Bangladesh 2016 onwards”. First of all she mentioned the aspects which are considered in sourcing. Important to note are facts like CSR & Risk assessments, best seller position, cycle times- retail, etc. The leading key drivers for sourcing decisions are still “raw material price fluctuation”, “currency fluctuation” and “market changes”. Of particular intererest was the examination of the three aspects “Who is doing well”, “Who do we think is doing well” and “Who will be doing well”.

Photographed defects, reports and the investigation’s results can be examined right on spot and subsequent actions can then be taken. However, the software also offers the possibility to analyze the supplier’s performance, to see an independent profile about the suppliers, as well as to keep the status of the samplings in mind.
Presentation 8
In addition to the presentation two panel discussion were scheduled. Experts with extensive practical experience made statements to their recent experiences and assessment of the political situation in Ukraine and Turkey. While the responses and experiences with Ukraine was entirely positive, the situation with Turkey is assessed more critical. Through measures such as travel ban to Turkey for employees of P&C the assessement is reflected.
Although Turkey stands in difficult times, nevertheless, it is important to put things in relation.
Once again we would like to thank all of our speakers for the great lectures, the participants of the panels for sharing their experiences and opinions with us, to Mr Hilger and Mrs van der Pols for moderating the whole day. A special thanks moreover to Mr Hilger for supporting us with the organization of the day.
